What is up with Google Chrome?

Chrome is the *MUCH* anticipated new browser from Google. Somehow Google leaked a comic book describing the software a few days ago, somehow someone leaked information saying it would be released Tues Sept 2nd, and somehow Sept 1st Google accidentally put up a Chrome webpage on the gears.google.com site that very shortly later got accidentally deleted, along with the cache of that page!

Amazing what you can do when you’re Google. Maybe they found the software was too buggy to be released just yet? Maybe there’s hundreds of programmers scrambling to get the code fixed before release? Maybe they’re shaving the head of the programmer that released the information they weren’t supposed to for all the world to see, because now everyone is wondering “WHERE THE HECK IS CHROME, I WANT IT!”

Or, maybe they’re just toying with us, building up momentum, trying to see what kind of power they have as a software company.

Lots, let me tell you.

It’s all over Twitter, all over the blogs, the tech sites, everyone is killing themselves to get a copy of this thing! It’s good software, or so it sounds.

Which reminds me, I really want to get a copy of the Android SDK on my HTC Touch!

Google is plastering their mark as a software company. It still amazes me how much they use Linux, from their servers, to their Android software, and yet how much they overlook the Linux desktop users. Windows will get the first taste of Chrome (so they say). Which really makes sense. After all, the browser they’re after isn’t Firefox, or Konqueror, but rather Internet Explorer. Which is used on Windows. And, after all, Windows has the most users and the most problems. Best choice for the beta release.

But I think they’re hearing the community and do plan to release a Mac AND a Linux version. Yay!

You can install their Android Emulator and SDK on Linux. Well, it’s Linux native to begin with, so that wasn’t hard.
